A woman has died in the hospital days after she and another woman were shot in Minneapolis while driving on Interstate 394 heading away from downtown.
Officers responded Sunday about 10:40 p.m. to HCMC after two women drove themselves to the Minneapolis hospital, according to a police statement issued Thursday.
A preliminary investigation found that the women were inside a vehicle traveling west on I-394, near where the freeway passes Penn Avenue, when someone shot into their vehicle. After realizing they had been wounded, they drove to the hospital.
One woman had an apparent life-threatening gunshot wound while the other had a non life-threatening gunshot wound.
The woman with the more serious injury died in the hospital, Minneapolis police said Thursday.
Officials have yet to release the woman’s name, but a family member identified her as Anassia Wiseman, 24, of St. Paul.
“In this tragic incident, she has 2 kids: a daughter that’s 8 ... and a son that’s 7 months old,” wrote Wiseman’s sister, Aminah Wiseman, in an online fundraising campaign begun on behalf of the children.
“All of Anassia’s property is under police custody,” the sister pointed out. “I have no way to get the kids clothes, Pampers, wipes, socks, formula and other necessities that they need.”
