Peyton Hemp, a sophomore forward from Andover, scored two goals and Abigail Boreen got the winner midway through the third period as the No. 3 Gophers edged Minnesota Duluth 4-3 on Saturday at AMSOIL Arena to sweep the women's hockey series.

The victory was the Gophers' 12th in a row. No. 6 UMD entered the series with six consecutive victories but lost 3-1 Friday.

"It was very special-teams heavy [game]," Gophers coach Brad Frost said. "We did a good job on both the penalty kill and the power play. It was a very physical game and both teams wanted it very badly. I'm very proud of our team to be able to take all six points."

UMD got within 3-2 in the third period on Mannon McMahon's goal at 3:29, but Boreen restored the two-goal cushion for the Gophers (22-3-2, 19-1-2 WCHA) with an unassisted goal at 9:31. It was the 18th goal of the season for the fifth-year senior and Hill-Murray alumnae. She has 13 goals in the past 12 games.

The Bulldogs (19-8-1, 13-8-1) rallied within a goal again when Taylor Anderson scored with 2:30 left after they went on a power play and pulled their goalie.

Skylar Vetter made 24 saves for the Gophers, Emma Soderberg 20 for UMD.
