Man, 83, fatally hit by vehicle on Twin Cities highway

The crash occurred shortly before sunrise Monday, the State Patrol said.

A man was hit by a car shortly before sunrise Monday in Plymouth and died, officials said.

The crash occurred about 5:35 a.m. on westbound Hwy. 55 near Revere Lane, the State Patrol said.

Emergency responders took the victim, an 83-year-old man from Minatare, Neb., to a nearby hospital, but he did not survive, the patrol said. His identity has yet to be released.

Patrol Lt. Mike Lee said the driver, 48-year-old Kenneth Dawayne Ward of Elk River, remained at the scene and was cooperating with law enforcement.

The highway was closed for about two hours as the patrol collected evidence.

Other information about the incident has yet to be released, including the circumstances leading up to the crash.
