Vikings promote safety Bobby McCain in case Harrison Smith can’t play against Seahawks

Smith is listed as questionable because of a foot injury. The Vikings also added tight end Nick Muse, and fullback C.J. Ham traveled separately for personal reasons.

The Vikings prepared Saturday to play without safety Harrison Smith on Sunday, indicating there’s a serious chance his foot injury will keep him out.

The Vikings elevated veteran safety Bobby McCain, adding insurance to the roster for Sunday’s game at Seattle. Smith is listed as questionable; most players with that listing play through the injury.

The Vikings also brought up tight end Nick Muse from the practice squad. McCain and Muse will suit up in Seattle.

Fullback C.J. Ham, who is also listed as questionable because of an ankle injury, traveled separately from the team Saturday so he could attend a family funeral.

The Seahawks will have every starter on the active roster available Sunday, including quarterback Geno Smith (knee), running back Kenneth Walker III (calf) and receiver DK Metcalf (shoulder).

Cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who missed the past two games with a hamstring strain, will return for the Vikings.

Defensive tackle Jalen Redmond (concussion) and cornerback Fabian Moreau (hip) have been ruled out.
