All good things must come to an end.

After running through the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors in five games each series, the Timberwolves got a taste of their own medicine against the top-seeded Thunder.

Minnesota’s season came to a quick end Wednesday night when it fell 124-94 to Oklahoma City in the Western Conference finals, losing the best-of-seven series 4-1.

The Wolves found themselves trailing by double digits early in the first quarter and never recovered, trailing 65-32 at the half. The deficit reached 39 points in the second half, causing coach Chris Finch to pull his starters midway through the fourth quarter.

Anthony Edwards finished with 19 points, six rebounds and two assists. He was much more aggressive in Game 5 compared with Game 4, but it made little difference as Oklahoma City’s top-rated defense squeezed the life out of him and the Wolves. Julius Randle finished with a team-high 24 points, while rookie Terrence Shannon Jr. added 11 points off the bench.

Oklahoma City’s big three of MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren showed up in a big way. Gilgeous-Alexander scored a game-high 34 points and added eight assists and seven rebounds, Holmgren had 22 points and seven rebounds, and Williams finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Minnesota now looks to the offseason and will have numerous decisions to make that could shape the future of the franchise.
