Teen found shot dead in north Minneapolis early Sunday morning

The 19-year-old man was found near North Mississippi Regional Park.

A 19-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday morning near the Mississippi River in north Minneapolis, police said.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara said in a news release the shooting occurred near the intersection of N. Mississippi Drive and N. Lyndale Avenue, which serves as the entrance to the North Mississippi Regional Park.

He said an investigation was underway.

“Anyone who has information should reach out and provide that information,” O’Hara said. “We are working to do everything we can to find justice for this victim and his family.”

According to police:

Officers found the critically wounded victim after responding to a report of the shooting about 3 a.m. They administered first aid, but he died at the scene.

The man’s killer had fled the scene before officers arrived.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office was expected to release the victim’s name.
