Nightlife notebook: A Guinness world record for drag?

You heard that right: the folks behind Friday's "Golden GRRRLS, A Night of 100 Drag Performers" are trying to beat the world record for the most drag queens (and kings) in a single performance. The show, held at Epic, will celebrate 40 years of drag in the Twin Cities and honor some of the greats. Capping off the night is national headliner Jackie Beat (actor, screenwriter and lead singer of electroclash band Dirty Sanchez). DJ Wendy Hunt will provide the beats. Proceeds from the show benefit the Aliveness Project.

Ping Pong all night long File this event under: Oh, why the hell not? As part of the Northern Spark Festival, one of the Twin Cities' best known photographers is staging a playful ode to his urban-centric work. Wing Young Huie: A Ping Pong Retrospective will feature 1,500 of his photos projected in the parking lot next to the Nomad World Pub in the Cedar-Riverside area. Here's the catch, the all-night affair will also feature a dozen ping-pong tables for glow-in-the-dark table-tennis action. A U.S. table tennis hall of famer will be on hand for demonstrations.

Mosaic talents This year's Minneapolis Mosaic festival concludes Saturday with an event for the whole family. Eleven finalists from schools across the city will compete at the Pantages for the top prize in the MPLS TLNT SHW (while this show is all about diversity, no vowels allowed!). The kids will show off their talents in spoken word, break dancing, rap, piano, guitar and more. Cash awards will be presented by the Edward R. Bazinet Village Scholars Program. Minneapolis Mosaic will donate $1,000 to the neighborhood and school with the highest attendance at the talent show.
