An “extensive manhunt” for the shooter who targeted two Minnesota politicians continued Saturday afternoon, and law enforcement officials asked the public for help finding him.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Vance Boelter, the suspect in a shooting that targeted Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman, Sen. John Hoffman and their families in Brooklyn Park and Champlin.
Anyone with information about the shootings or Boelter’s location should call the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) tip line at 877-996-6222 or email bca.tips@state.mn.us.
FBI officials described Boelter as white, 6 feet tall, 220 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. The public is asked to call 911 immediately if they see Boelter, and caution that he should not be approached.
Earlier this morning, police said Boelter posed as a police officer and drove an SUV that resembled a police squad car to Hortman’s and Hoffman’s homes.
Meanwhile, Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley said the city’s shelter-in-place order has been lifted. He said that if an officer knocks on the door, call 911. “If they are a police officer, dispatch will be able to confirm that person is a police officer.”
Brooklyn Park police and all assisting law enforcement agencies are also being told to operate in teams of two — so residents should not respond to any individual officer approaching them.
Champlin Mayor Ryan Sabas said there was no shelter-in-place order in his city. He said Champlin police are working with other agencies on the scene at Hoffman’s home.
